Chris Matthews sucks up to Kent Conrad

Matthews was up to it again today with a kissing exhibition with Kent Conrad, the New Democrat Coalition lackey, and they talked about how wonderful the deficit commission is, and how we have to pass Social Security cuts immediately.

If Bush had been allowed to win another term as President, then:

We would have 150,000 troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Guantanamo Bay would be open.

There would be no public option on healthcare, and policy costs would continue to rise.

Seniors would face cuts in Social Security and Medicare benefits.

DADT would be Pentagon policy.

Wall Street would get all the tax breaks they wanted, paid for by the middle class.

The Patriot Act wouldn't be repealed.

There would be no chance of passing Card Check.

Ben Bernacke would be Fed Chairman.

The New Democrat Coalition would run Congress behind the scenes.

Gates would be Defense Secretary.

The Bush tax cuts for the wealthy would be extended.

I'm so glad I picked the candidate for hope and change.

Christian Indonesian high school girls beheaded in religious attack

The AP reports this horror:

JAKARTA, Indonesia — Unidentified assailants attacked a group of high school girls on Saturday in Indonesia's tense province of Central Sulawesi, (search) beheading three and seriously wounding a fourth, police said.

The students from a private Christian high school were ambushed while walking through a cocoa plantation in Poso Kota (search) subdistrict on their way to class, police Maj. Riky Naldo said. The rural area is close to the provincial capital of Poso, about 1,000 miles northeast of the Indonesian capital Jakarta.

He said the heads of the three dead girls were found several miles from their bodies.

Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim nation. But Central Sulawesi has a roughly equal number of Muslims and Christians. The province on Sulawesi island was the scene of a bloody sectarian war in 2001-2002 that killed around 1,000 people from both communities.

At the time, beheadings, burnings and other atrocities were common.

Many of our goods are now being manufactured in Indonesia, where wages and quality are low. Three cheers for the global economy without human rights.
